Michal Hofkin

Lead Regulatory Engineer, UL Solutions

Michal Hofkin joined UL Solutions as a Lead Regulatory Engineer in the Codes and Regulatory Services Department in May 2021. Michal is responsible for leading UL’s regulatory efforts in the northeast United States serving the Eastern Section of the Independent Alliance of the Electrical Industry (formerly International Association of Electrical Inspectors - IAEI) and other industry entities. He will provide code expertise and standards-related guidance to regulatory authorities, manufacturers, designers, contractors, and UL Solutions’ customers. Michal will also lead and actively participate in model code development efforts and support code-based advisory services solutions for UL clients and municipalities in these disciplines. Before joining UL Solutions, Michal enjoyed a twenty-three-year career as an electrical inspector and plans examiner in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, with the last ten years serving as the regional manager for a large, multi-state inspection agency. He is a certified electrical inspector and plans examiner. Michal has been an instructor of electrical code and trade courses for over thirty-five years and is a former master electrician in four states. His work with the IAEI has led to his current position as secretary of the Benjamin Franklin Chapter, past president of the Benjamin Franklin Chapter and the Eastern Section, and as the former chairman of the IAEI International Board of Directors. Michal is very active in the code development process, writing public inputs and public comments, has served on an NEC code-making panel, is a former member of several UL Standards Technical Panels, and is a current member of the Sustainable Energy Action Committee (SEAC).
